Rabbits are playful pets and it will amaze you how intelligent they are when you provide toys that stimulate them mentally. Toys keep your rabbits healthy, happy, and prevent boredom. Deprivation of toys can make your rabbit put up undesirable behaviours such as chewing on furniture, carpets, or electrical cords (which is more dangerous).

There are a variety of items in pet stores that could pass for a rabbit toy although they may not be labeled as rabbit toys.  Also, you can make your homemade rabbit toys with the following items:

  • Paper bags. (Especially one that your rabbit can fit inside)

When selecting toys for your rabbit, you need to ensure the toy material is safe. In a situation where your rabbit develops the habit of chewing a particular toy, you can switch to another toy. Avoid items such as plastic parts or soft rubber that can cause gastrointestinal upset and blockages when swallowed.
