Fur shedding is a natural process in cats. Though it varies with different cats, it is simply normal behaviour. Animals generally shed their fur to remove the old hairs and replenish them with new fur. It is also a healthy behaviour in cats because old dead hair can cause skin irritation resulting in dermatitis (Inflammation of the skin)

Shedding varies with different cats and the major factor that influences shedding is the photoperiod. This is the total number of times your cat is exposed to sunlight. Hence, cats that stay indoor will shed less while cats that stay outdoor will shed more often

Cats are fond of grooming themselves and in the process, they swallow a gulp of hair which can cause stomach upset. It is always recommended to give your cat a hairball digester to prevent such upset. Cat owners should also groom their cats regularly to remove the dead hairs and to keep their cats healthy.
